Cherokee Elementary School is accredited by AdvancED which is a "global leader in providing continuous improvement and accreditation services to over 32,000 institutions serving 20 million students worldwide." Cherokee Elementary School follows all curriculum and testing standards as set by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. All classrooms incorporate high speed internet, wireless internet, and interactive Promethean Boards or SMARTBoards to enhance the 21st century skills being taught and modeled in all areas. Beginning with the 2017/2018 school year, Cherokee Elementary School will begin the process of transitioning to a blended learning model where students will be empowered by using digital tools.
Cherokee Elementary School provides students many opportunities to learn as well as to develop an interest in a variety of activities including access to a healthy living curriculum; reading enrichment opportunities including daily reading in "Read Bravely;' and a variety of afterschool enrichment groups and clubs. Sacred Path, unique to Cherokee Central Schools, promotes the values we cherish which are Respect, Responsibility, Truthful, and Caring.
Cherokee culture is integrated in all curriculum areas. Our cultural staff has developed Cherokee language and history standards. Staff and students are encouraged to join the traditional singers and dancers club. Each year there is a Cultural Heritage week and a special ceremony that honors Cherokee elders.
